The Southern Railways is committed to Conserve Energy in all its operations and Energy Conservation has become a new ‘Mantra’ (Focus Area) in Southern Railways to Save Energy.

The Railway Stations are highly Energy Intensive and require round the clock reliable lighting. Lighting consume nearly 10 to 25% of the total power consumption in any Railway Station and thus offer huge potential and challenge to reduce the energy consumption by employing Innovative Strategies.  This paper provides details of some of the Innovative Strategies that have been adopted in Chennai Central & Chennai Egmore Railway Station for Energy Conservation in lighting system.
